I’ve always been drawn to this humble food stop along Maginhawa, but it was only a couple of days ago when I got the chance to grab a bite in Cocina Juan. Just at the same street as some of my favorite comfy food places, Friuli Trattoria, Good Burger, Pino (we love their amaretto sour!), COCINA JUAN has more of an artistic/ bohemian feel to the place, with a simple, laid-back atmosphere, perfect for fun conversations over drinks and good grub.
We had a big meal, starting off with Nachos and ending with dessert! We had to squeeze in everything (thinking about those who don’t have anything to eat, esp. nowadays), but we were surely not disappointed.
We started off with Nachos; crispy corn chips with a tangy, sour cream sauce. We also had Chicken and Pepperoni Pita Pizza, a 10-inch, thin pita, cheesy mix of chicken and pepperoni. Both dishes would probably go well with beer/ mixed drinks! Great especially for after-dinner pulutan :)

Next up was the All-Meat Fillete de Pollo (Chicken), which actually looked really plain when finally served. White pita wrap on a white plate, with white garlic sauce on the side. However, when you take a bite, you’ll find a sumptuous, filling burrito (without the rice-guilt). I barely had a chance to taste more than a mouthful since the next time I looked; Rob had already finished the burrito.

I ordered the Sofrito Cream Dory con Blanco Queso, which I absolutely loved :) As I slowly opened the foil which encased the Dory, a piping hot, cheesy aroma greeted my senses, and the perfectly-done Dory satisfied my appetite. Now it was my turn to quickly finish off my meal! This dish may be served with rice or pita with a delicious tomato and olive oil-based salsa.

Lastly, for dessert, we had Sopa Borracha con Frio Crema. This is a famous Panamanian dessert, also known as drunken cake.* Similar to an ala mode rum cake, this sweet concoction capped off a great foodie night.
