RUB Ribs & BBQ

RUB Ribs & BBQ is one of the relatively new additions to the Kapitolyo food strip. It's a bit further from Charlie Burger/ Cab Cafe/ Poco Deli area and the sign is quite small, so drive slowly or you'll probably miss it! I've been to the place twice or thrice, usually for lunch. If you're planning on grabbing lunch, get there early, as it can get pretty packed and you'll have to wait to be seated.

Restaurant interiors are quite nice. It has a diner-ish feel to it, with the booth tables and the posters (or statements) of famous people hanging up the walls. I don't really see how the name, design, and interiors tie up together (from a marketing perspective), but it does seem to work out nicely :)  And besides, in most restos, it's usually the food which can make you go back.

Why go to a Ribs place when you don't want to try out the main dish? I'm not really a ribs-person (but I do like Chubby's) but what the heck. I shared a Super Duo with a friend -- that's ribs good for 2 plus two sides. They have a Family Brunch option which serves 4, and the Singles version come with rice and 1 side. I have to admit, portions are good for the number of pax indicated. And with the price, you wouldn't particularly feel ripped off.

Ribs were good, meat was soft to the bite and the sauce had a good mix of spice and saltiness. I liked their mashed potatoes, since it's not the ready-mix type. Potatoes still had skin and had a home-made feel to it; I do think they could still season it better. They also have other dishes on their menu; such as Pork Belly, Mini Pizzas, Pasta, and Fish.

Dessert options was pretty minimal, but we decided on Fried Oreos with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was okay, a sweet mix to counter the tangy flavor of the ribs. But I feel you can get a dessert to cap off your RUB meal elsewhere.

Super Duo with Mashed Potato & Corn, P370
Singles, with Rice & Mashed Potato, P205
Smoked Pork Belly, P200
Fried Oreos with Vanilla Ice Cream, P150

All in all, RUB is a good place to get your ribs fix = friendly neighborhood resto you can hang out in + good food. In addition, food portions are adequate and prices are not sky-high. Definitely worth a visit :)
